Anonymous asked: If I was going into a real studio environment after completing a Bachelor course, do you think the studio engineer / producer is, in the end, going to care / acknowledge that you have that degree?

I personally don’t care about a degree if I put you to assist me and you take too long/have to ask/mess up. This is a business, not a day care.

The opposite is true. I don’t care about a degree if you can do it/do it with ease/find a way or 2 to do it.

In sound, as in everything Tech, it’s all about:

People skills

Can you make it work fluently and in less than 3 minutes?

Can you conceal your flaws? :)

Make sure you squeeze as much as you can from your teachers, and keep that relationship with them. They are teaching for a reason, and you can call in a pinch.

Knobs and pots and faders and speakers don’t mean shit if you don’t know inside and out how they interconnect, and many ways of interconnecting them.

Don’t get nervous! some “engineers” are dicks, and get used to it. Then you prove to them that you can, and they open up and are sweet.

When you step into a studio and ask for a job/internship, there is the moment when you say “Was it all worth it?”

Are you experienced?

WALL•Exoplanet. One of my favorite albums. Ever.

badcgijosh:

In this post, I will present the argument that The Contortionist’s 2010 full-length, Exoplanet, can in fact be interpreted as a progressive metal retelling of the Disney Pixar film WALL•E. Let’s begin!

  1. Primal Directive: The story begins on a planet called Earth. A lone Waste Allocated Load Lifter - Earth Class (WALL•E for short) has been tasked with undoing the damage that years of thoughtless consumption and greed has inflicted upon the birthplace of man. However, this solitude is brought to an abrupt end with the arrival of an Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator, or EVE. “Scan the surface. Bring up vitals.” EVE is searching for something relentlessly, and grows more frustrated with time. The two robots are at constant conflict with the “Primal directive”, for in the time that mankind left them to proceed with said directives (“You have been defined”), something happened that we did not anticipate - they developed personalities, nay, sentience. “Focus shifted. Save the organism through implied relocation” - EVE inadvertently stumbles upon a plant WALL•E salvaged during his work. “Now we execute standard protocol” - EVE stores the specimen and abruptly enters standby mode, awaiting collection. She has her own primal directive - to enable mankind’s sustainability, “by any means and every technology”.

Is English the language of Metal?

I rarely hear buzz about a band that sings in another language, even if that language would sound great.

A.N.I.M.A.L. From argentina is a good example.

Imagine is Sepultura sang in Portuguese. Morbid visions woulda been their only album.

How do you become the hottest act?

I believe it’s timing, in a huge way.

Baroness and Mastodon began at the same time, but now Mastodon opens for Metallica, and Opeth opens for them.

I listen to both, and they have things in common, and they’re both awesome bands.

Baroness is still opening medium shows.

Do you want to be associated with a lame band?

You don’t have to say yes to everything, even if you’re starving for being in a band.

Or if you’re starving for money, but the band it’s just not good, and you’ll know that for a low price, you’ll be recording not so great musicians and having to edit for hours on end.

Sometimes people just end up using you. Is it worth it?
